THE LITTLE BITTY SPIDER AND THE FLY
©2005 Shelly Potter
C. Shells – “Cool Cats”
1. Little bitty spider was mighty hungry
His little bitty belly was empty and a grumbly
And he was wondering how he’d get by,
When what should he see but a big black fly
“Oh, my, my, my,” said the spider to the fly
“You have the most beautiful eyes. I’ve some sugar just for you
Right behind this shiny web.”
“No, no, no, I won’t come near.
You’re the stranger I should fear.
My mama told me not to talk to you.” And away he flew
2. Little bitty spider was still mighty hungry
His little bitty belly was still empty and a grumbly
He sighed, “What will ever happen to me?”
When he hears the buzzin’ of a bumbly bee
“Oh, ooo, wee,” said the spider to the bee
“You’re the fuzziest thing I ever did see.
There’s a flower full of nectar just for you
Right behind this shiny web.”
“No, no, no, I won’t come near.
You’re the stranger I should fear.
My mama told me not to talk to you.” And away she flew
3. Little bitty spider was feelin’ faint and sick
I need some food and I need it quick
When he looks up to the sky, he sees a beautiful butterfly
“Why,” said the spider to the butterfly
“You’re the lovliest creature in the sky
I’ve a mirror so you can see, right behind this shiny web.”
“No, no, no, I won’t come near.
You’re the stranger I should fear
My mother told me not to talk to you.” And away she flew
4. Little spider’s legs were wobbly like jelly.
He needed some supper in his little bitty belly
When up should fly the birdie blue
Said, “Little spider, I need help from you.”
“Cough, cough, cough, I might choke.
There’s a bug caught in my throat
Please climb in and fetch it out
It’s right behind my big pink tongue.”
“Oh my,” said the spider, to him self.
“Hmm, there’s my supper on the shelf.”
But just as he climbed in the birdies mouth
Whoosh came mama spider and snatched him out
“No, no, no, you shouldn’t go near.
He’s the stranger that you should fear
Always listen to what I tell you to do
And they both went, “Whew!”
